I went to go check out that Volvo R today with my father in law. It was a 2004 with 70k miles and was for sale for $12,900. I'm so disappointed. The thing was beat to shit.

When I spoke to the dealer on the phone, I asked if there was any sort of service history besides the carfax and he said "no." When I asked if the timing belt or the clutch had been replaced he said "no." I still wanted to check it out though, I've never seen an R up close.

When we got to the lot, it was boxed in but the dealer just handed me the keys. No offer to move it out or anything. The car itself was in rough shape. It had scrapes and dents, the tail light was cracked, center caps on the wheels were missing, the Pegasus rims had curb rash, and the drivers's seat bolster was worn (but god were they comfortable!). Some of the interior bits were scuffed and there was trash in the backseat. I started it up but that's as far as I got. There was no way this car was taken care of the way it was supposed to be. I handed the keys back to the dealer, told him thanks, and he said "ok." One of the flip keys wasn't flipping either. What a waste of an awesome, low mileage car. Neither the previous owners nor dealer know what they had. I'm so disappointed.

My day brightened up though, I went to look alt motorcycles with my father in law after. In the back was a Grand National under a cover. The salesman said it had 12k on the clock and still had the original plastic on the seats. No Sr20, he didn't offer to take the cover off. There was also a new Camaro SS and a Trans am.

Sounds worse than the one I went to see, I test drove an 04 with 93k on it and the interior was all chewed up, and the back rotor was making a grinding noise. The angle gear was also clunking away

I told you to find a 06/07! lol

Glad you had the common sense to walk away. Those things in rough shape are a nightmare.

I hate people that don't take care of their things.

Might I recommend a Subaru Legacy GT Spec B? They can usually be had for around 12k-16k and have the drive-train out of an Sti.

Not a bad idea, I'll have to check into them
